Exports of Iran’s Red Gold up by 25 percent

According to IranExpo news , saffron also known as the Red Gold of Iran, is a major export item of the country. The deputy chairman of Iran’s National Saffron Council has said some 251 tons of saffron have been exported from the Razavi Khorasan Province to the value of USD 345 million in the last Iranian calendar year (1397). This figure is about 14 percent higher than saffron exports from the Razavi Khorasan Province in the previous year (1396).

Gholamreza Miri added: “About 90 percent of Iran’s saffron exports belongs to the Razavi Khorasan Province and according to our estimation, the total exports of saffron has shown a growth of 20 to 25 percent in 1397 [2018 ].

Miri said in the current Iranian calendar year (1398) [2019 ], saffron exports are expected to increase by 25 to 30 percent. “Because of the good rainfall and increased areas under saffron cultivation in different provinces, we expect an increase in saffron production,” Miri added.

According to PD, Khorasan province in eastern Iran produces 65 percent of the world’s saffron product and Iran is the biggest saffron producer of the world.
